John Thompson, Director of BCT’s Major Barbara, is thrilled to be bringing Shaw’s rarely seen classic to the stage. While written more than a century ago, Shaw’s examination of religion, class privilege government, health care education and marriage, are as important today as when the play was first written.

“Poverty is a crime.” So says Andrew Undershaft, the extremely wealthy owner of a successful English armaments business, in Shaw’s play, Major Barbara. Undershaft, whose self-proclaimed religion is his wealth and his industry, scoffs at the morals professed by his daughter Barbara, who has joined the Salvation Army in her desire to help the poor and has attained the rank of major. But when the Salvation Army runs out of funds, will it be Undershaft who saves the day?

Featuring Debra Ablezer, John Barbera, Jennifer DeLancey, Austin Galvin, Robert Grogan, Dana Laite, Laurel Lettieri, Lauron Lewis, James McAlvanah, June O'Neill, Maeve O'Neill, Gene Pope, Steel Swift and Timothy Young
